Meeting Minutes
Del Norte Amateur Radio Club
September 1, 2005

Meeting called to order, 7:10pm
President Lori had all in attendance introduce themselves! Eleven people were in attendance.

Lori read the minutes of the August meeting. (Mike/Eric) approved.
No treasurer's report because Chuck has been called up by the Red Cross to help with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

Old Business:

  • The move of the IRLP node from Lou's home was postponed until for least one month;
  • Jefferson State Bike Tour: Mike said that at this point we are waiting for info from the bike race chairperson. Mike wants to hold an organizational meeting Tuesday, Sept 20 at 7 pm at the Red Cross office and is covering for Chuck because of his absence working the Hurricane project. Warren said that he would carry the info up to the Pelican Bay ARC group. Eric suggested that we contact Marci down at HARC to participate;
  • Eric did not get together with Chris regarding the digipeater for Camp 6;
  • Mike reported that Chuck purchased the logging software. Mike also said that Chuck probably sent Dorothy and Fred Morrison the thank you note for all the ham equipment.

New Business:

  • Lori said that Marci of HARC got a large (Moooey Grande) grant for the Humboldt club and that the DNARC will be the recipient of one of their used repeater systems. Lori also reported that the Humboldt ARC has several emergency communications vehicles as well as radio equipment at hospitals, schools etc in preparedness for emergencies;
  • Lori said that we need to renew the web hosting fee of $74.20. Mike asked if we could wait until next month when Chuck was back. Lori said that we had a month before it was delinquent. Mike said that Chuck might have a free site. Mike said he would call Chuck to see if he had a freebee site for our website. If he doesn't then he moved that we go ahead and pay the web fee. (Mike/Warren) approved;
  • Mike reported that the Red Cross received the grant for equipment and radios have been purchased;
  • Mike put the emergency net frequencies used for the Katrina Hurricane on the chalkboard. Here they are:
    • Daytime: Traffic 7.285/ Nighttime: 3873;
    • Daytime:Welfare 7.290/ Nighttime: 3935;
    • Salvation Army frequency for the hurricane relief is 14.265. US Coast Guard Rescue Center phone number 1-800-323-7233. Mike reported that the Red Cross is in need of radio operators to help out with the hurricane. Contact Mike if you are interested in being trained and would be willing to travel to LA or MS;
    • Mike said that there will be a simulated emergency test in mid October. Also, ARRL is encouraging hams to go set up at remote sites on Sep 17 with a generator or on batteries to promote public awareness of amateur radio;
    • Rene moved that we send out a letter to all members announcing that we will be having our DNARC nomination of officers at the October general meeting. (Rene/Warren) passed;
    • Warren announced that the Pelican Bay ARC would have their annual picnic at Loeb Park in Brookings on Sept. 18 at noon.

Next DNARC meeting is Thursday, Oct 6, 2005. The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by your dutiful scribe, Lindy Rust, WA6ZDO
