The next club meeting will be Thursday, November
3rd at 7 p.m.
PROGRAMS: We
are looking for programs - interesting demonstrations, movies
or stories - related to, or of interest to Amateur Radio operators
for our meetings. If you have a home-brew item that you would
like to share, a slide show of your last DX-pedition, or an
engaging tale of your ham radio prowess, we'd love to have
you share it! Contact our VP, Mike
(KE7F) via email,
so that he can put you on the schedule.

Meeting Minutes
Del Norte Amateur Radio Club
October 6, 2005
Meeting called to order, 7:16pm
In attendance: President Lori (KF6VFI), Treasurer Chuck (KG6LTQ),
Doug (K6DCM), Eric (KF6VFI), Warren (KE6LEA) and two guests.
Lori read the minutes of the September 2005
meeting. After one minor revision, the minutes were passed
as read (Doug/Warren).
Chuck read the treasurer's report: after the check from the
Bike Tour is deposited and before any checks are written,
there is $1,501.22 in the checking account.
Old Business:
- The Jefferson State Bike Tour and our participation
in it was discussed. Warren brought a list of suggestions
on how he thought it might run better next year. During
the discussion suggestions made included:
- One month prior to the race hold a
class on proper communications for this type of event;
- Possibly moving CP2 to Redwood School
from SAR in Ft. Dick;
- Also, we received a check from the
Race for $375. A motion was made to spend some of that
money on tripods and base antennas for the difficult
to get out checkpoints. This equipment would also be
used for other emergency and field day exercises. Mike
and Eric will research the equipment;
- The move of the IRLP node from Lou's home
was tabled until the November meeting;
- Chuck stated that without our 501C3 status,
we could not utilize the free web hosting he has access
to, and he handed Lori a check for $74.20 to pay for hosting;
- Eric gave a report on his discussion of
a digipeter for Camp Six with our tech, Chris. Chris states
that a digipeter at Camp Six would disrupt communications
through the Camp Six repeater, and that adding a digi to
that site would force him to discontinue his services as
our technician. Eric presented some ideas for exploring
the Highway 199 corridor to find two suitable sites for
digipeter placement;
- There will be a SET (emergency exercise)
on October 16th. An ARES meeting will be held beforehand
to prepare for it. A date and time will be given (by Chuck
or Mike) on the upcoming Tuesday (October 11th) Net check-in;
- Since we had such a low turn-out for this
meeting, nominations were accepted (see below), but a motion
was made by Chuck to allow nominations to be accepted through
email. Warren seconded the motion. Lori will send out emails
asking for nominations. Nominees so far:
- President: Lori (KF6VFI), Mike (KE7F)
and Doug (K6DCM), who declined the nomination;
- Vice President: Mike (KE7F), Eric (KF6VFH);
- Secretary: Chuck (KG6LTQ), Fred (AD6FC);
- Treasurer: Chuck (KG6LTQ).
New Business:
- Lori asked for reports on emergency communications
from members who assisted in the Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane
Rita disasters, to be filed to ARRL. Chuck discussed his
Red Cross experience in Louisiana after Katrina. The overall
consensus is that ham radio had a positive influence on
the situation;
- Lori brought up the upcoming Christmas
party, and asked if it should be held at Elk Valley Casino
again. Having it at the Lucky 7 Casino was suggested, and
Lori stated that she would research that as a possibility
and post her results to the site and report on it at November's
meeting;
- Warren said that the DNARC is invited to
the PBARC Christmas party. He will contact Lori with the
date and time and it will be posted on the website and brought
up at the November meeting;
- Lori brought up that dues were coming up
at the end of December, and asked for permission to be reimbursed
for a postcard mailing to Del Norte Amateurs and amateurs
in surrounding counties. Eric motioned that she be reimbursed,
Warren seconded it;
- Eric asked if he could be reimbursed for
fuel used for the mobile units during the Bike Tour. Doug
made a motion that he be reimbursed, Warren seconded it.
Chuck gave Eric a check for $40.
Next DNARC meeting is Thursday, November 3,
2005
