Along with the other members of the Del Norte Amateur Radio Club I join them in their shock and grief at the loss of old friend Gene. He was one of a kind, who marched to the beat of his own drummer. A man of all seasons, of many talents, yet willing to help at any time , on any task. A very worthy competitor in the annual California Party Contests, we alternated taking first place from year to year. He holds the All-Time rcord for Del Norte
County and he deserves it. He loved amateur radio and the radio club. I believe that deep inside himself, at a very personal level, he loved flying more. Flying was a personal fire-breathing dragon that constantly challenged him and Gene loved the challenge. To our sadness the dragon won.
